Net = 20 + 25 + (20×25)/100 = 45 + 5 = 50% increase.
Example 2: Increase Followed by Decrease
Question: Population increases by 30% and then decreases by 20%. Net change?
Net = 30 + (−20) + (30 × −20)/100 = 10 − 6 = 4% increase.
Example 3: Successive Discounts
Question: Two successive discounts of 20% and 15%. Find equivalent single discount.
Net = −20 + (−15) + (−20 × −15)/100 = −35 + 3 = 32% discount.
Equivalent single discount = 32% (not 35%).
